Craigmillar Castle
Craigmillar Castle sits just three miles from the centre of the city of Edinburgh. Overshadowed by the much better known castle in the city, it nevertheless has a history of its own and is definitely worth a journey out of the city to explore it.
The first view of Craigmillar Castle from the car park
We travelled by car. There is a small car park at the site, with spaces for about eight cars, so we’d recommend getting there early in peak times.
The name Craigmillar is derived from the Gaelic: craig, meaning crag, maol, meaning bare and ard meaning high.
Craigmillar Castle is managed by Historic Environment Scotland. Details for planning your visit can be found here.
